Banbidian Forest Park is located 10 km south of Huangcun Village, Daxing District, about 35 km away from downtown Beijing. It is the largest forest in Beijing and covers an area of 180 hectares, famous for idyllic life. This park formed because of the forestation which began in 1982. In 1985, the Beijing Municipal Government decided to build up a park in this area and planted 20 kinds of trees including poplar, willow, pine, cypress, scholar tree, cedar, pear tree, apple tree and other kinds of trees in the following years.

It was first named Dragon River Forest Park. In 1986, it was expanded and finally reached an area of 133 hectares. In 1988, it turned into a park of bridges, pavilions, waters and other views. Later Chen Yun (a former senior official of China) wrote down 7 Chinese characters inscribed “半壁店森林公园 (Banbidian Forest Park)”.

The characteristic of Banbidian Park is that it is a human-made forest park, where dense forests can be found and the air is quite fresh and clean. The paths in the park appear serene, and so it is an ideal land for those who want to escape from the bustle of city life. The roads and bridges are paved with stones and travelers can cycle in it or drive a car to tour the park.
