New "Despicable Me" movie takes 2nd place in China box office on premiere day
BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Universal and Illumination's animated comedy "Despicable Me 4" came up second in the box office chart on the Chinese mainland on Friday, the first day of its screening.
The latest installment of the franchise pocketed 41.18 million yuan (about 5.77 million U.S. dollars) on Friday, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.
Crime thriller "A Place Called Silence" continued to top the chart with a daily earning of 68.35 million yuan.
Jackie Chan's epic drama "A Legend" came up third, pocketing 8.59 million yuan.
The total box office revenue of the Chinese mainland on Friday stood at 137.09 million yuan.
